'Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit'
Vince Lombardi
One important trait of great achievers is their
ability to learn and unlearn. Learning and unlearning is not an overnight
event. We learn a new language. Once we learn it, we cannot unlearn it immediately. We can even say that it is not only difficult, it is impossible to
unlearn. There is no shortcut for the learning and unlearning process. There is
no 'Ctrl+C', 'Ctrl+V' and 'Alt+Ctrl+Delete' when it comes to dealing with our
mind!
It applies to forming and getting rid of an
existing habit. It is easy to force a behaviour on us. But, if we are not
convinced, our mind will not accept and
will reject the same. We cannot 'manipulate' our mind to accept
something on which we are not convinced. Self conviction is very important
before self acceptance.
When it comes to career development we have to
learn and unlearn our existing set of actions and processes. We may introduce a
new technology and a new process of doing our business. But acceptance should
follow introduction.
Here's a simple exercise for you.
You know what time to get up in the morning. From
tomorrow get up one hour before that time and see if you could do it
continuously for 21 days without even a day's break!
